On 17.01.2024 Adv. Milena Kadieva will be visiting the students of Sociology and Human Sciences and Geography, Technologies and Entrepreneurship majors from the Faculty of Philosophy and History of the University of Plovdiv.
Introduction and history of the speaker:
Lawyer Milena Kadieva has been an international human rights defender and activist for equality and justice for more than 20 years. She graduated from Plovdiv University "Paisiy Hilendarski" in Law in 1999. He holds a Masters in European Law from the University of Exeter, UK. She specializes in the Court of Human Rights, the UN Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, the UN Committee against Racial Discrimination, Interrights - a global human rights organization, and others. He is currently a doctoral student at the Faculty of Philosophy and History. He works in the field of protecting the rights and interests of victims of domestic violence and multiple discrimination, as well as in the field of family law. It applies international, European and national law. Litigation before the Court of Human Rights and the UN Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, known as CEDAW.
She is the winner of the "Woman of Europe" awards in the "Woman of Action" category and Defender of the rights of children from violence. She was awarded the Badge of Honor by the Plovdiv Bar Association for her special contribution to raising the authority of the legal profession as a result of her active work to protect victims of domestic violence. Adv. Milena Kadieva is the founder and director of the "DA Foundation - Together Against Violence", which for more than 12 years has been carrying out activities for the public benefit, maintaining its own Counseling Center for victims of domestic violence, working in the fields of education and the empowerment of women and children, and lobbied for legislative changes relating to domestic violence, children's rights and equality.
It will introduce students to the topics related to human rights and interpersonal relationships that lead to phenomena such as domestic violence and parental alienation.
